NATO Multinational Exercise BALTOPS 2016

The most significant of recent years’ NATO Multi-National Exercise  ‘BALTOPS 2016’,  formulated to demonstrate and enhance the U.S-European  Armed-Forces Readiness and Interoperability, is on the way in Baltic Sea region from June 5- June 20.  The Exercise is the U.S-led drills with the ‘STRIKFORNATO’ leading its implementations.

The participants from  17 U.S-European States, contributing:  6100 Troops,  over 60 Military Air crafts, about 800 Amphibious Troops, and 45 Ships and Submarines are from the Armed-Forces of:  Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France,  Finland, Germany,  Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands,  Norway,  Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, UK Royal Navy Flagship HMS Ocean,  and the U.S Naval Force with USS Mount Whitney,  U.S Air Force Europe.

The central objectives intensify on:

  • Enhancing the Allies Interoperability;
  • Training in Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare,  and Mine Countermeasure Warfare;
  • As well as Amphibious and Maritime Interdiction Operations and Exercising against the Asymmetric Threat. Recounts NATO’s NAVAL Striking/Support Forces.

Frigate ESPS Santa Maria of Spain in Operation Atalanta

Frigate ESPS Santa Maria of Spain has been redeployed on the Operation Atalanta on 15th May to stay in the next five months.

Atlantic Ocean (October 22, 2005) - Sailors of Spanish frigate SPS Santa Maria (F-81) prepare to conduct replenishment at sea (RAS) with the Spanish oiler SPS Marques De La Ensenada (A-11) off the coast of Brazil. Naval forces from Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Uruguay and the United States are participating in UNITAS 47-06 Atlantic phase, a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored exercise that enhances friendly, mutual cooperation and understanding between participating navies by enhancing interoperability in naval operations among the nations of the Western Hemisphere. Described by EU NAVAL Force, Frigate ESPS Santa Maria has a high caliber Operational capabilities including  a unique  Maritime Surveillance and Reconnaissance system, Remotely Piloted Air System, and  the Seahawk Helicopter on board. 

With the arrival of ESPS Santa Maria, the Multitask Warship ESPS Tornado also of Spanish Navy will return to its port in Gran Canaria, after months of successfully conducting counter-privacy Operations in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.

Canada provides a new financial aid for the Humanitarian Emergency

Canada has allocated a new Humanitarian Assistance for the most vulnerable around the World. The amount will be for emergency assistance for people affected by crisis, drinking water, nutritions and other kinds of emergency aid.

In the first week of May, EULEX conducted a special Training for the Law-Enforcement on ‘Drug Detection Training Course’.   Described by EULUX Public Office, the training was delivered by two UK Border Force Trainers at Pristina International Airport (PIA), and aimed to upgrade the expertise of the the Kosovo Border Police and Customs Officers in the areas of:

  • Border Security
  • Detect/seizing all categories of prohibited drugs

U.S Navy flies in the search of missing Egypt-Air

On May 20, the  U.S. Navy P-3 Orion has launched its Operation in the search for missing Egypt-Air.

Announced by the U.S Naval Forces Europe-Africa:  

“The U.S. Navy is providing a P-3 Orion in support of the Hellenic Armed Forces, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Greece, in response to a request by the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece for assistance in the search of the missing Egyptian aircraft.”

The Netherlands on Protecting the Law-Enforcement

The Netherlands is taking a new measure that should protect the Law-Enforcement during all categories of Close-Combat, inter alia……civil unrest and social violence. An important step that needs  to be followed by other European States equally.

“Police officers will no longer automatically be labelled as suspects during inquiries into the use of force.   A factual investigation, based on the assumption of lawful conduct, will be conducted instead. This is the core of a legislative proposal from State Secretary Van der Steur (Security and Justice) sent to various bodies such as the Council for the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service (OM) for advice.” May  3 2016 © Dutch Government
